The New York City Fire Department has closed 4 Escape Rooms
A deadly fire at an Escape Room in Poland has prompted NYC Fire Fighters to launch a task force to check the fire safety conditions at over 20 Escape Rooms in New York City. Four Escape rooms were closed and three others were partially closed. This all comes from the death of five, 15-year old girls who were celebrating a birthday at an Escape Room in Poland. A fire broke out in the Escape Room and the girls were unable to leave because the door knob on the only exit was removed. The girls died of Carbon Monoxide poisoning and burns.
Although safety standards are much stricter here in the United States than in Poland, the fire fighters issued over 21 violation citations; citing safety hazards such as blocked exits, lack of sprinklers and lack of proper exit signs. The closed Escape Rooms will have the chance to reopen after a re-inspection.
